What is beta reading?
A feedback questionnaire from a “test reader” before you go on to the next phase of publishing. I provide notes on positive reactions, plot points, pacing, character impressions, any sensitive topics or biased language I spotted, and overall reading experience.

What genres do you read?
Beta reading is an opportunity for the target reader to provide feedback.
With this in mind, I offer beta reading for:
cozy mystery
general (“traditional”) mystery
middle grade fiction, including middle grade fantasy
&
cozy / low-stakes fantasy

When should I look for beta readers?
Most authors utilize beta readers after self-editing the first draft of the manuscript. Ideally, a round of beta reading will give insight into any problem areas you want to correct before paying for a professional editing service.

What is the pricing?
$25 for manuscripts up to 20K words
$50 for manuscripts 20K-50K words
$75 for manuscripts 50K-80K words
$100 for manuscripts over 80K words

What’s the process?
After submitting the Beta Reading Interest Form below, I will get in touch with you and send you an email with the proposal agreement that includes the service details, total cost, and turnaround time.
*Typical turnaround time is 7 days for a 50K manuscript.

Why would I pay for a beta reader?
A lot of authors have found that paying for a beta reader ensures solid, timely feedback. There are a lot of complaints of beta readers who ghost authors or don’t follow through with helpful, detailed information.
I will show you my typical feedback questionnaire, but I also can fill out a feedback form you provide instead!
