Editing Services

Copyediting
$0.01–$0.015 USD per word
Turnaround: 3 to 4 weeks
What does a copyediting service include?
Editing for spelling, grammar, usage, punctuation, and style choices according to The Chicago Manual of Style; checking continuity in details; light fact-checking; and preparing a style sheet
What are the deliverables?
An edited Word document with tracked changes, a style sheet, and a visual timeline document
Do you offer sample edits?
Yes! I offer free 1,000-word sample edits to evaluate the level of editing that you need and give you an idea of what my revisions and feedback will look like. I also offer a free 15-minute discovery call to discuss the project in more detail and answer any questions you may have.
What's the difference between a copyedit and a proofread?
Copyediting is sentence-level editing that focuses on clarity, consistency, and conciseness. This is where all those grammar and style decisions, along with author preferences, come into play! Your copyeditor will be creating a style sheet to ensure consistent choices are made throughout the entire manuscript.
Proofreading is a final check for any errors or typos that have slipped through. It also includes checking the formatting on page proofs of the physical copy of the book.
Proofreaders will flag obvious grammatical errors, but they are not checking for continuity or suggesting recasts of sentences.

I never want to charge for editing services on a manuscript that would benefit from earlier editing steps (like developmental / structural editing). If we determine that to be the case, I’m happy to point you toward some other colleagues for developmental and line editing services so you can spend your publishing budget wisely!
Every author needs to find the best fit for them and their story. When you’re ready to move forward, I’ll send you a service agreement and invoice with the proposal of work and total cost.
You’ll pay a 20% non-refundable booking deposit to secure your spot on my schedule, a 30% (of total cost) payment due at the beginning of the project, and remaining 50% balance due upon delivery of your edited project. I also offer a payment plan option!
